Milad Faris, age 6 (left), and his brother Stephen, age 9, play on the floor of their small apartment in Beirut. Their father was killed February 29, 2008, in Mosul, Iraq, while working as a driver and assistant to the Chaldean archbishop of Mosul, Archbishop Faraj Rahho, who was later found dead. The boys came to Lebanon in May with their mother and sister, and currently live as refugees in Beirut. Tensions run high with neighbors who reject the Iraqis, however, and Stephen was beaten by other children on October 2. The family has received assistance from the Caritas Lebanon Migrant Center, which is funded by Catholic Relief Services, the relief and development agency of the U.S. Catholic community.
