Jeddah Palo listens to instruction from Judgie Decadiz, the teacher of a welding course at the San Roque Catholic Church in Tolosa, a small town in the Philippines that was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. Palo, 24, lost her home to the typhoon's storm surge and has been living with her mother. The 25-day welding course, sponsored by Catholic Relief Services, provides her with training for a new livelihood, at the same time as the students put their newfound skills to work rebuilding the church's collapsed sanctuary. The storm was known locally as Typhoon Yolanda.
