A beach near Molyvos, on the Greek island of Lesbos, is littered with life jackets from tens of thousands of refugees who have passed through the island on their way toward western Europe. They journeyed to Lesbos on small boats from Turkey, paying Turkish traffickers huge sums for the perilous voyage.
