Jefrin Zendrato, 13, poses among mangroves he helped plant as a small boy in 2007 near his village of Moawo on the Indonesian island of Nias. The mangrove planting was part of assistance provided to the village by YEU, a member of the ACT Alliance, following a devastating 2004 tsunami and 2005 earthquake. Residents say the mangroves have helped to protect the shoreline from erosion and attracted crabs and small fish which have helped to revitalize their fishing industry.
