Dozens of demonstrators, including Steve and Leigh Dry of Lexington, Massachusetts, took over the floor of a May 3 session of the 2012 United Methodist General Conference in Tampa, Florida, demanding a more inclusive church. They held communion around the center table and sang songs, causing the presiding bishop to suspend the morning session. The demonstrators left at the beginning of the afternoon session after discussion with several women bishops, who publicly told the demonstrators that they felt the pain they had experienced as a result of the conference's actions to continue the denomination's position on homosexuality. Leigh Dry is an alternate delegate for the New England annual conference.
